F.H.E.

Tonight we walked the 30 seconds it takes to get to our local beach for Family Home Evening.

Normally we stay home and do a lesson out of this great little book called "52 Weeks of Family Night" I'm new to this "adding a link thing" so instead of having it all fancified and saying "click here" with it being the link, just click on the dang link below! Anyway, it's a FAB book and we've used it for about two years with our kids!

So this is our beach in Hau'ula...
Isn't it beautiful? It's about 6pm and the tide is SUPER low!
We wanted to spend the evening enjoying God's creations as a family
Don't worry, we didn't leave River at home :)
These are the times we appreciate with our children
And they appreciate the outings as well
You know the story of The Giving Tree? This is the Swinging Tree...
I love these two blue eyed babes...
And they love one another. I'm thinking they will be best friends like another couple of cuties I know...
These two!
What's under that rock Hunter??
A tiny shrimp of course!!
Hunter is the fastest kid I know when it comes to catching anything that moves :) In fact that cut on his hand is from the other day at the beach when he was tearing the bark off an old tree stump in order to catch a green gecko. He caught it.
Well done, son! We teach our children that nature belongs in its own element so it can survive. Hence, we don't allow things like this to come home with us- it would just die, and who are we to give it a life sentence? So after admiring it, he returned it to its home :)
Goodnight beach. Until tomorrow when we see the glorious sun peek over the edge of your horizon. We feel so blessed to live here at this time when our children can experience and appreciate our beautiful world God created.

This is truly paradise.
Whenever I hear the song of a bird, or look at the blue, blue sky.
Whenever I feel the rain on my face, or the wind as it rushes by.
Whenever I touch a velvet rose, or walk by a lilac tree,
I'm glad that I live in this beautiful world- Heavenly Father created for me.

FoUr MoNtHs

This is how my baby is looking these days! He has a little tuft of dark hair at the back of his head from birth, it's so cute and silky soft!
His eyes change color depending on whether he's wearing grey or blue.
Kolea wanted to get in on the action and grabbed the old camera- haha!
So I couldn't help myself, capturing the two of them together. See how he looks at her?
He's totally giving her what she wants from this photo shoot! She is copying me all the way... Haha!
What's going on mom?
My two babies. That's what I call them.
Annnnd he's down for the count...
"Don't cry, Rib-buh" as Kolea comforts him :)
Satisfied, it's back to the camera
I can't believe how time is flying! It always does, doesn't it? Well I've been working hard at losing this baby weight. I'm only 6 lbs away from my pre-pregnancy weight which has me jumping for joy! After I had Kolea, I didn't get to that point until she was 9 months old! So I'm please with how things are going. Don't get me wrong, it's not like it's just melting away on its own. I've been really working at it! I'm hoping to be where I want to be (9 lbs lighter than I am now) by summer time.

Martin Luther King Day

What do you get when you put...
A giant slip 'n slide with soapy suds...
And lots of friends...
A human carrying ball...
Sisters and smiles...
A jaunt to Alligator Pond...
With your buddy...
And an epic climb...
In an amazing tree, all together???
One pooped crew at the end of the day!
PS: that is a monk seal that was really beached there (sleeping) just down from Alligator Pond that day.

When it Rains it Pours

During the week of January 9th we were under flood watches every day. This happens occasionally and it's not really a concern. However, on the 12th it became a concern. It had POURED all day long and by evening we had some water leaking into our garage.
Ryan and I had this concrete block at the back of the house and brought it out front to help direct the flow away from the garage. It helped. I wish I could've taken a pic at the end of our driveway where it was like a river flowing down the street! But the rain was too intense, and it wasn't worth doing that to my camera :)
I love how you can see the raindrops! It was really quite exciting!
Our yard was flooding. And amazingly enough- 24 hours later it was though nothing ever happened.

A Waikiki New Year

Last year we went to Waikiki for the New Year since we'd only lived here for a couple of months and we didn't really have any friends to celebrate with or know what fun things there were to do around here! So to town we went and stayed at the Marriott where we had a blast!

It's now become our new tradition! Although this year we wanted to go a day early so we could spend more time and have it be relaxed instead of stressing about timing and trying to find parking and all those kinds of headaches. Anyhow, we went to the Marriott again and had two rooms this time- which was great for sleeping arrangements with FOUR children in tow!

We were on the 30th floor and this was the view from our room!
Zooming in you can see all of the surfers at Waikiki
'Sup dude?
Trying out the comfy beds as Ryan and I unpack a few things
And we're off to see the sights and have some fun!
Kolea insisted on walking. Half the time she had her play phone to her ear too :)
Yum!
I love this pic :)
CHEESE!
AND CHEESE! Haha, just kidding. I don't know why this scary looking thing was in front of this store. But it freaked us all out as we passed by!
I grabbed a cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory. It was gone in about 9 seconds.
Where's my cheesecake?
These dudes are pretty entertaining street performers. Well they don't really "perform" as much as they just stand in silence...
But it's worth giving the guy a couple of bucks :)
This dude moves like a robot- it's pretty sweet!
As the sun sets on Waikiki on December 30th
Ryan took this one- you can see my silhouette as I'm looking down at River
This is only a few steps away at the Banyan Tree. It's amazing to me how different the light can be depending on what direction the camera is pointed in.
This one is a beaut! I'm thinking about framing it. And it's totally undoctored.
Gooooood Mornin' Waikiki!
Another Banyan tree on our way to the Aquarium
Wheeeee!
I'm posting a bunch of pictures from our adventure at the Aquarium for one reason... We see these animals a lot- in the wild. When we go snorkeling, many of these animals are what we get to see in the deep blue sea :) Anyhow, I wanted to share that with you!
Cute fish :)
This is an octopus. It's small, yes. I've seen this in the wild!
OK- I haven't seen these, but the jellyfish are my favorite exhibit!
They are so beautiful!
This is a jellyfish about the size of my 5 yr old's palm. I said to Ryan, don't you think this picture I took is amazing?" He replied, "what's amazing is that there is really a creature like that!" OK, he wins.
Ya see that long fish with the yellow on it? That is a trumpet fish, or pencil fish. We see those ALL the time. Along with that big piece of poo looking thing. It's a sea cucumber :)
This is a Grouper. It's HUGE! I remember scuba diving in Cozumel and almost running right into one that was the size of a large ottoman! It scared the crap out of me!
Gotta love the hermit crabs and sea stars...
Hands...
This is a monk seal. We also see these beached periodically. They are endangered (I think)
After the Aquarium we walked back to the hotel and happened upon this cute little bird along the way. Yes, it's wild.
But this crazy bird lady thinks she needs to domesticate him and take him...
We seriously stayed and watched forever. This crazy lady was almost more entertaining than her birds!
But we finally made it back to the hotel and River went "swimming" for the first time!
Later we went to Waikiki Beach and rented a surf board. That's Ryan in the middle of the picture bringing it in at the end of our "one hour sesh." We each took it out for a half hour. At least now we can both say we've surfed Waikiki! :)
After cleaning up back at the hotel we took the kids to The Cheesecake Factory for dinner!
We were all really excited to eat there- we love that place!!
Fun at the fountain where Hunter misjudged the spurts of water :)
No blur mid jump- this camera rocks!
My monkey!
He'll be working at the PCC soon enough climbing their coconut trees for the tourists! :)
Finally a smile!
We're getting a little tired here...
And even more tired here...
The kids went to bed and Ryan and I hung out waiting for the fireworks show at midnight. Funny thing though, we fell asleep. Ryan woke up with a start saying, "it must be getting close because I'm hearing a bunch of fireworks!"

Sure enough, it was 11:55 pm but TONS of fireworks were already going off. We went out on the balcony and it looked like this...

Everything was totally smokey! It was insane!
Hello 30 stories high! Please welcome, Vertigo!
Ta-da! Happy New Year!
I realize I'm writing this on January 29th, but c'mon. Humor me :)
