Our SUPER "C!"

Each month at Laie Elementary the teachers chose a child or maybe a couple of children who have exemplified extraordinary behaviors of kindness, politeness, etc. These children are chosen as a "Super Citizen." Hunter was "chosen" for being a good example in the month of February but was honored in March at their monthly "Super Citizen" assembly.

The family is invited to come see their child be honored in front of the whole school and the parents can bring leis for their child after the award is given. It was a LOT of fun to see Hunter on stage and be there to cheer for him! You are so AWESOME Hunter!

This is all of the Kindergarten children that were chosen from the 5 different classes.
My little Super C!
Kolea is always ready for a picture- and a sucker!
Here the kids are all filing back to their classrooms after the assembly. They each bring their own chair out to the lawn in between the buildings and set them up by class in orderly lines. Hunter received three candy leis. One from daddy, one from mommy and one from his G'ma and G'pa Hitz who happen to be visiting at the time.
Here is our happy little family! So proud of you Hunter- you rock! And we love you!

P.S. I'm 15 weeks pregnant here! We find out in a couple of weeks what we're having. More to come on that later. =)

Bishop Museum

The very first day of Spring Break we went with a group of moms and kids to the Bishop Museum in Honolulu. We'd never been before but had heard some great things! Right now they have "Science Under The Big Top" as their major exhibit. It was pretty entertaining. But there are different buildings with different things to see...

The first being Hawaiian culture and oceanic critters- like this GREAT white shark! It was hanging from the ceiling and it was life sized. Holy crap! They are H*U*G*E!
They also have a building dedicated to volcanos and other natural bugs and things you'd find in Hawaii. We stayed in this one the longest b/c let's face it. Volcanos are fascinating!

Say "CHEEEESE" everyone! And I just noticed that Gabriella is wearing Hunter's slippers (flip flops- for you mainlanders) in this photo. I wonder what shoes he's wearing? She NEVER wears shoes/ flip flops/ slippers. She tries to go barefoot everywhere we go but sometimes that doesn't fly with me. So she normally ends up putting on whatever is laying around in the car. At any given time we have about 3-5 extra pair of slippers in our car! Funny girl. =)
Here's the sweet volcano that goes off every five minutes. You can even push buttons to make it bubble and pop in different ways. Hunter was absolutely mesmerized by this.
They have a little dress up area as well to be different animals or insects. It was quite entertaining. Nice pose Gabriella!
Now this looks totally disgusting but it was actually really cool. This is a simulation of a volcano. It's hot wax that bubbles up out of a hole in the middle of the table as you crank the handle (what Hunter is doing.) But I realize in the picture it really just looks like a pile of poop!
Finally we get to the specialty exhibit of Science Under the Big Top! Here Hunter is discovering how a sword swallower can swallow up to 12 knives at one time! You can't really tell by the picture but as he pulls up on the sword it lifts it out of the models mouth and it shows it up on the x-ray. And the opposite is true as he slide the sword back down into the box. It was pretty knarly!
They had another place to dress up and go on stage! Gabriella finally found something that fit her well enough for a picture. And something that was cute- of course!
I decided to jump in and have some fun with the kids! I dressed as the fat lady- but I didn't sing. Although my double chin fits in well enough! Nice job on your camera skills, Hunter!

Gabriella saw this picture as it was uploading and said, "is that after you ate a lot?" Kids!
Way to go Hunter! Strongest 6 yr old ever! I think my kids DO belong in a circus sometimes!

Fun With Friends

A few weeks ago our friends, The Crane Family came to Hawaii on Spring Break. They spent only a few days on Oahu before heading to Kauai but we got to spend a super fun day catching up and seeing the sights!

Here we are at Castles Beach. Currently this is our favorite spot to go boogie boarding. A must if you come on vacation to see us!
It was a little breezy for Cosette and I so we chilled in our beach chairs and played with Kolea. This is how she says "CHEEEESE" these days.
Kids drying off and warming up, enjoying their tootsie pops!
Ali did NOT want to smile for the picture so Cosette was trying to make her! Ha!
After some fun warming up at our house- we all drank hot chocolate. Gabriella and Ali took a bath, Hunter and Zack played the Wii, Madi lounged in the hammock while reading her book and Ryan showed Josh and Mark (Bishop) how to paddle board. Cosette and I basically did the mom thing making sure everyone else was happy ! =) I swear, moms work harder than ever when they are on vacation!!

We decided to go to Haleiwa, a cute little surf town, for dinner. The girls all wanted to ride in our car and Hunter rode with the boys in the Crane's car. They were all so cute! We'd just washed Gabriella's hair and it was still soaking wet so it's up in a hair towel- no it's not normal for our 4 yr old to go out in public wearing a turban. Ha!
This was the sunset on our drive to Haleiwa. It was GORGEOUS! And just think, I snapped this pic while going about 25 miles an hour. It would've been even better if we'd been able to stop and get out for a minute-- but we were starving so we just enjoyed the sunset from the car this time.
After a filling dinner of PIZZA at Spagatini's we got the most D-lish ice cream at Scoops of Paradise. We got lucky and got in right before the huge rush!
Kolea did NOT want help holding her ice cream cone. She like to do it all by herself!
Thanks Crane Family for playing with us that day!! It was fun and refreshing to see and be with friends from Colorado. We sure miss you guys- you are such a wonderful family! We can't wait to come play this summer when we're there visiting. =)
