The very first day of Spring Break we went with a group of moms and kids to the Bishop Museum in Honolulu. We'd never been before but had heard some great things! Right now they have "Science Under The Big Top" as their major exhibit. It was pretty entertaining. But there are different buildings with different things to see...
The first being Hawaiian culture and oceanic critters- like this GREAT white shark! It was hanging from the ceiling and it was life sized. Holy crap! They are H*U*G*E!
They also have a building dedicated to volcanos and other natural bugs and things you'd find in Hawaii. We stayed in this one the longest b/c let's face it. Volcanos are fascinating!Say "CHEEEESE" everyone! And I just noticed that Gabriella is wearing Hunter's slippers (flip flops- for you mainlanders) in this photo. I wonder what shoes he's wearing? She NEVER wears shoes/ flip flops/ slippers. She tries to go barefoot everywhere we go but sometimes that doesn't fly with me. So she normally ends up putting on whatever is laying around in the car. At any given time we have about 3-5 extra pair of slippers in our car! Funny girl. =)
Here's the sweet volcano that goes off every five minutes. You can even push buttons to make it bubble and pop in different ways. Hunter was absolutely mesmerized by this.
They have a little dress up area as well to be different animals or insects. It was quite entertaining. Nice pose Gabriella!
They had another place to dress up and go on stage! Gabriella finally found something that fit her well enough for a picture. And something that was cute- of course!
I decided to jump in and have some fun with the kids! I dressed as the fat lady- but I didn't sing. Although my double chin fits in well enough! Nice job on your camera skills, Hunter!

Now this looks totally disgusting but it was actually really cool. This is a simulation of a volcano. It's hot wax that bubbles up out of a hole in the middle of the table as you crank the handle (what Hunter is doing.) But I realize in the picture it really just looks like a pile of poop!
Finally we get to the specialty exhibit of Science Under the Big Top! Here Hunter is discovering how a sword swallower can swallow up to 12 knives at one time! You can't really tell by the picture but as he pulls up on the sword it lifts it out of the models mouth and it shows it up on the x-ray. And the opposite is true as he slide the sword back down into the box. It was pretty knarly! They had another place to dress up and go on stage!
